Long-distance move from Peoria, AZ to Belchertown, MA

Everything but Integral

Hired for $29K moving from AZ to MA. I never imagined how many high dollar items were unaccounted for. Upon a tardy delivery and $2.5K cash, I was made to assist ONE elderly man (the driver) to unload the semi full of items. Inadequately sourced with employee's, overcharging, loosing family heirlooms, significant damaged on delivery, this company needs to shut down. Investigations will unveil deplorable practices by practiced thieves. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY or you'll regret it. I spent hours putting together a CSI claim received a denial of service.

Long-distance move from Ventura, CA to Greensboro, NC

American Home Losers.

Based on my experience I will not recommend American Home Movers or their services to anyone.

- Very unprofessional
- Items missing/stolen
- Extortion

Short Story

This company was continually late, overcharged us, lost our items, and then offered us a pittance in remuneration in exchange for what equated to a gag order in the form of a liability waiver, clearing them of any wrongdoing and forbidding us from writing about our experience anywhere or reporting them to any government/regulatory agency.

Long Story

I contracted the company to move us from CA to NC in May of 2017 for an August move. While setting appointments and arranging the move, they were very attentive and communicated regularly. This all stopped on the day they were scheduled to arrive.

American Home Movers had not arrived at the scheduled pickup time between 8am to 10am, despite us confirming days before. Dispatch had no idea where the movers were when we called to ask about it. The dispatcher said she would call the drivers to find out their location. We had to call after an hour of waiting with no update. The dispatcher acted as if we never spoke and said the movers would arrive between 5pm and 7pm. Thanks for letting us know. The movers showed up at noon.

The price was increased by $115.88 on the spot for no definitive reason. We had even removed items we deemed unnecessary prior to the deadline. We had fewer items/cubic feet than the minimum price point, so we were prepared to pay their minimum. However, after having already paid our initial deposit, it being the day of the move, and we scheduled to depart the following morning, what could we do but cough up the dough?

We packed everything ourselves and had it all waiting by the front door for a quick and easy job. The movers loaded our items on the truck in under 30 minutes. We were prepared to meet our items two days after our arrival in NC, but that would not be the case.

A dispatcher called us as we were driving across the country to say they wanted to drop off the items on a day earlier than that which was scheduled, because it was more convenient for them. Give me a break. Otherwise, we would have had to wait to receive our goods a month later when another driver could make the trip out to NC. I guess you’ve got me by the short and curlies. just come on over whenever.

The driver showed up a two days after the original drop-off time. After all was unloaded we noticed many of the cardboard boxes had arrived significantly beaten up. Many crumpled as if stored under heavy weight and others with large holes/tears in the sides and/or corners.

Two items in particular went missing, a pair of computer monitors used in my home workstation. These had been packed in their original box and labeled, but did not arrive with all our other items. Kind of suspicious, right? Come to find out they were on the inventory sheet that left the warehouse, which can only mean they went missing between NV and NC.

When I brought this up with the company they said these things happen and that it’s possible the box was dropped off at another person’s house, as each truck carries multiple deliveries. What? So, call the people you delivered to, to ask if you left someone else’s property with them! Sorry, we need to wait until the truck is done with deliveries to make sure it’s not still in another client’s load.

We had to initiate contact every time to receive an update and we were told every time that they had nothing new to report. Each time we called, the lady we spoke with promised she would call us with an update. That never happened. Each time we called back, she told us that she needed to speak with the warehouse manager and that she would get back to us. She never once called back. Fast forward a month later and no monitors, no word on whether or not they were dropped off elsewhere, or simply fell off the truck.

The next exchange eventually rolls around to don’t pack your valuables. I have to ask, isn’t anything I choose to take with me across the country of value to me? What’s the difference if it’s worth $10 or $1000? You present yourselves as some kind of professional moving service.

The ordeal ends with someone on the phone saying look, we’ll give you $150 “On good faith”, which is better than the $0.60 per square foot you are entitled to, but you can’t say anything about this to anyone, not the BBB, not Yelp, not anywhere in print or online. Fat chance.

It’s this company’s sole job to get everything you pay for from point A to point B, anything they lose as a result of negligence, theft, or sheer incompetence should be replaced at their expense. You might want to reconsider calling yourselves American Home Movers if you’re not cut out for the job.

Bottom line, forget American Home Losers and go with a real service.

Long-distance move from Nevada to California

Move and storage.

I moved from Las Vegas NV to Orange County CA. I had to leave my stuff in storage for 4 1/2 months because I was traveling before moving to CA. American Home Movers and Moshe, my contact person were wonderful to do business with. The 4 movers arrived on time and took about 4 hours to pack up the house. My belongings were protected and packed in a professional manner. All the workers were very polite and professional. They kept my stuff in storage in Las Vegas and when I was ready for delivery I called Moshe and he arranged for delivery within a week of my request. All my items were returned to me and nothing was damaged. I would use American Home Movers again (but I am hoping I don't have to move again any time soon). Thank you for a job well done!

Bunch of my valuables we either damaged or broken they doubled the price than what we originally agreed upon and during the pick up they suddenly added extra fees and during delivery I had more fees added for every seven steps up the stairs when the contract said per flight and I come to find out by bed frame is missing my wooden rails the foot board is missing and damaged a leg the dropped my dresser on the stairs they tore everything apart and did not do what they promised and put it all back together on delivery the also damaged broke the pegs my sectional attachments that hold my sectional together I would have never booked these guys but a broker acted like they were an actual mover booked these guys so do your self a favor don't book with these clowns(U. S. Standard van lines American home movers the packers and American home movers shippers) pay some your money and pay more and get a real professional company to move you that handles all 3 phases of the move don't do what I did to move across country with these 3 clowns

Long-distance move from Nevada to New York

Scammed. very shady. pickup and delivery are separate companies.

Stolen item, surprise fees with movers asking for bribes to overlook surprise fees, deceptive advertising/claims.
According to other moving companies I've used, what American Home Movers did was a "scam".
Things went fairly well during the quote process, however the problems arise during and pickup and dropoff.
Pickup and delivery, despite what American Home Movers tells you, are separate operations/companies.
Pickup showed up about 2 hours early, which was really inconvenient because I was at work. Pickup then tells me that.. SURPRISE!! THIS WAS MISQUOTED! Travis, the representative that scheduled the move told me that if the truck was more than 100 feet away from my apartment they would need to charge a "long-carry" fee (understandable). What he failed to mention, or the movers completely lied about, was that they count every floor they go up on an elevator as 75 feet. Going up one floor on an elevator = carrying my items 75 feet.
The movers then told me that they would overlook this added on long-carry fee if I gave them whatever cash I had on me "off-the-record". In other words, a bribe/shakedown.
They have you pay in 2 parts, half for pickup, the other half for delivery.  They claim to accept credit cards so long as you give them a few days notice. I should mention that from the second the estimate was approved I notified American Home Movers that I would be paying both parts with a credit card. I paid my initial deposit/pickup fee with a credit card, however after pickup and during transit more shadiness ensued. I called American Home Movers 2 days after pickup (day 2 of a 10 day move) to notify them once more that I would be paying with a card so that they'd have plenty of notice and there wouldn't be any more surprises. The representative then tells me:
"UH, YEAH YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO CALL DISPATCH ABOUT THAT". In other words, we got your money, we're done with you, you need to talk to a separate company and work it out with them.
I call dispatch right after but get sent to voicemail. I leave a message notifying them of the payment method and asking for a return phone call. In hindsight, this may have been a mistake because the foreman now knows he's not getting cash and pretends he wasn't notified. I finally get a call on the 9th day telling me they are coming the next day. ONCE AGAIN I tell them that I'm paying with a card and the foreman tells me the following (in broken English):
"Uh NO NO NO NO NO YOU CAN'T PAY WITH CARD ONLY CASH OR MONEY ORDER". Needless to say, since they had all of my stuff, I felt like they had me over a barrel and I had no choice but to give them what they wanted (in other words, extortion).
Delivery shows up the next day and my stuff gets delivered. They either lost or stole my dolly/hand-truck and laughed about it. They tell me I should never move a dolly or a ladder because they will keep it. They made no effort what so ever to find my item or remedy the situation, they just thought it was funny. The dolly isn't a big deal itself, but its the principle and poor service that really bothers me. .

Local move within Nevada

Never Again..

Not a pleasant experience with AHM.  Would not go with a shipping company ever again.  I will do the hard work, even if it costs more at the end of the day.  This is your money - read on and see if it's worth the cost.
You see at American Home Movers, there are a few things you should know up front - it would have been nice to know beforehand:
- Not all terms and conditions are available for review until after they show up to move you.  Buyer beware.
- Quotes are done over the phone.  They will take an inventory that is largely flawed.  After all, it is only an estimate, but they assured me - "We just want to ballpark your estimate so that there are no surprises when we get there.  It might be a little more, maybe a little less."
- American Home Movers will hire a group of individuals to rent a truck 20" to 30" and load it.  After that it will go to a warehouse.  Within 5-7 business days, they will pile its contents into a larger semi and then ship that semi to as many places as possible.  You are under their clock, not the other way around.  We lived in our cross-country apartment for a week before we had a bed to sleep on.
- You pay for a flat rate square footage total until the truck is loaded.  The square footage is a rough estimate that they "attempt" to correlate to weight.   That's when they tell you what it will actually cost.  In our case, it rose by 50% - our $2,000 estimate turned into a horrific $3,000 estimate.  And now what will you do when everything is loaded?  "No.  Unload it."  That's what I should have said, but alas, I had a job to be at in Michigan.
- The movers (once they get there - in both pickup and delivery, they were two hours later than our quoted time) are very professional and will work their butts off, but be wary of the company they serve.  They are overbooked and underpaid.  Tip them and don't kill the messenger.
- The time to deliver your stuff is anywhere between 1-14 BUSINESS days (longer for a coast-to-coast move).  In my particular case, business day 12 was when we got our stuff.
- Inventory tracking is lax, at best.  They will label items with colored numbers, but the list will be as descriptive as "Box" - so if something has a list of items contained, it matters not.  Some stuff (as expected) was broken when it arrived - some of that was our fault, but I thought they would have ensured the safety of some of that stuff since they charged us for it.
- Two boxes are still missing.  One of which is an easily labelled PS3 - a mistake on my part - I should have put my expensive systems in larger boxes.  We don't know how the process is going to go, but after a week, I can assure you it's not pretty - in our particular case - to get reimbursed for such lost items.
- We had one of our intermediary movers call and say that out of 160 items, "missing only 2 is pretty good," and to "not worry about it.'  "I distinctly remember your PS3.  It was on the truck."  He insinuated that we had gotten away pretty clean.
- Shipping the car was both a nightmare and a breeze at the same time.  We were originally quoted $875.  We were charged a $75 booking fee by BOTH American Home Movers and the company they sold our business to - totaling $950.  After fighting with representatives who kept insisting on us having a Plan B for pickup times, we had to bring the car to my sister's house who helped remedy the move.  When I called American Home Movers, they were disgusted and said no company should tell us to have a Plan B.  I asked if AHM had (since they were the ones who originally booked the shipping order for the car) any alternatives, they were quick to say "We'll call you back."  Needless to say, they didn't.
If I had to do it all over again, I would not go for cheaper options - and American Home Movers has some of the most attractive quotes out there.  But if you are going to spend this much money on a move to a different state, go with an assured brand.  Trust us.

Long-distance move from Nevada to Florida

Worse moving experience ever.

I have moved across the country several times now.  This company has added unnecessary stress to my move.  The movers jacked up the bill by putting our smaller boxes into theirs, and used 18 ($6) rolls of tape on a house that was 95% boxed up when they arrived. My est was 1500 it got pushed up to 2300 that day. We have yet to receive our house and can not get an answer from then on when to expect delivery.  At this time it has been 22 days.   The "delivery manager" is rude and the 2 times we were actually able to track him down on the phone he was angry with us for wanting to know where our stuff was!  Tells us it takes time to  schedule this stuff, it's been 3 weeks! If it takes that much time to figure it out he shouldn't be in that position. I would NOT recommend this company!   .

Long-distance move from Nevada to Florida

Worst moving company.

This is the worst moving company around.  I have moved across the country a few times now.  This is the first time that my experience has led me to write a review of this caliber.  The sales man that came to my home to bid the move was great, or so I thought.  I received 3 bids and went with the bid in the middle .  As soon as the movers showed up at my home (two hours late) they started complaining about how the move was under bid.  The head manager started talking with me about how the man, Moeshe, who came out and bid the job under bid it.  That in order for us tomove forward we wouod have to come to an agreement on a new move rate.  The rate given to me was apparently $1200 off!  Are you kidding me.  Here I am packed up ready to move accross the country and they show up late I have to move and now they tellme that I owe and additional $1200 or tey won't move me!  So that aside because I had to be out that day (something that they knew) we cam to terms.  As the days go by I get to the destination and my furniture did not.  I called to find out how things were moving along and I am told that my belongings have yet leave its orgination!  I shook some heads via the phone and long story short, my belongings arrive.  When I get my stuff, all of my boxes marked fragile were on the bottom of the truck.  THe movers at the original pack must have broken my dinning room chair because when I received my chair it was bungy tied back together. I called customer service and all they say is oh don't worry you can file a claim.  Really, a claim to replace something that should have never happened, something that is not replacable. Compasion is lost on this company.  THey are terrible! Run fast and far.  Don't fall for the sales pitch like I did.  As for their claim for damages they told me to file..I have filed the claim 8 times and they conviently don't receive it.  Please learn from my mistake and stay away from this company!!  .

American Home Movers.

We were pleased with American Home Movers.  They were at our house when they said they would be, both for pick-up in rural Kansas and delivery in San Antonio.  They could have arrived a day early to load, but we were not ready.  There was a leak in the back of the truck and torrential rains did leave some items wet.  The driver made sure we went through everything r he left and gave us instructions about filing a claim if necessary.  So far damage less than $100.  Had good, efficient helpers at both ends of the move that made loading and unloading go quickly and smoothly.  Cost was more than estimate, but we had underestimated # of boxes we would have. I would rather pay a little more for good and timely service.  .

Good Company.

I researched many moving companies and chose American Home Movers based on very few negative reviews.  I spoke with Allie and she walked me through each step and answered my questions honestly.  Allie called the day before our pickup to confirm the time with me.  The day of pickup, Moshe arrived with his crew of 4 and they went right to work.  All of the men were professional and courteous.  They wrapped our furniture carefully and handled our boxes with care.  Moshe gave us his cell number to contact him in tracking our order.  Moshe explained it could take 7 to 10 days to reach our destination, mainly because of uncertain weather.  Eight days later, we received a call from Moshe that our order would be delivered the next day.  The driver called us to confirm a time and then called us the next day, asking if they could come earlier than the time he gave us.  Within two hours, all of our furniture was placed where we wanted it and our boxes were all stacked for us.  I was very pleased with the price, communication, and overall professionalism of this company.

Stay Clear!

This company is the worst moving company I've ever used. Their booking agents will feed you false information and even with an accurate inventory with a promise that your price is locked they will charge you extra fees. But you won't know that until your things are being loaded. Once they have your belongings expect it to sit in a warehouse for a while as your file sits in the dispatch office while they don't know when your belongings will ship. They have had my belongings for 25 days now well over the 21 day window they was supposed to hit. Now they are unsure if my things will arrive tomorrow or the next day. When you call dispatch you will talk to Shannon. Her boss is always on the phone or never in (ideal hours). American Home Movers doesn't has terrible customer service and will argue with you as well. I'd rate then ZERO stars if I could. Stay clear of this company. Don't believe me check the Better Business Bureau, Yelp, and other ratings. I ain't the only one.

Theft and Poor Management.

Please do yourself a favor and choose a more reliable and ethical moving company.  I chose AHM because they had a very low estimate.  when it was all said and done it cost me as much or more than the rest of the quotes I received.   A woman named Shannon called me a few days before my scheduled move to ask me if they could come early and I said no.  Then she called me back asking if they could come a few days later and again I said no.   She said a driver had put in for vacation and it never got entered into their books.  I said "I'm sorry but I can't be flexible and asked her if she wanted me to find another company"   she said no the driver will just have to forfeit having Easter weekend with his family.  I gave them a deposit on my credit card.  When they came to pick up my things in Phoenix they said I needed cash or money order (no one told me that before that day so they ended up taking my card again.)    They said the reason is that I could call up and cancel the charge afterwards.   I worked for a credit card company for over 15 years, I know that once an approval is given on your account your only resolution is a dispute process, but you cannot cancel the charge. The company closes it's office early on Friday and is closed all day Saturday but opens up again on Sunday at 11:00.  If you call the 800 number for customer service during these hours you will just get a recorded message there is no emergency number.   Keeping that in mind, I found it extremely rude that one of their employees called me on Easter Sunday the day after my pick up in Phoenix to advise me once again that I would need to pay the remaining balance in cash when they dropped my things off in Chicago.   My estimate was 1500 and change to move approx 2 rooms from Phoenix to Chicago and the end cost was 2200 and change.  I had left a gift card inside a greeting card and sealed envelope along with a bottle of champagne in the refrigerator for the people who had bought my place.  They were aware of that because they saw it on final walk though.   A few days after I left they sent me a text saying WOW you decided not to leave the card and champagne.  At first I thought it was a joke, but they insisted no,  they were not in the refrigerator.  The only people in my house that final day were myself and the moving crew from AHM who were given a welcome to my refrigerator because I told them to help themselves to water.     The house was locked until the new people moved in.  I can only assume it was the crew from AHM that took the items. When my things arrived in Chicago it was on a truck with the name of "Planet Moving" the driver said he worked for Planet and they were doing a favor for AHM.  The drop off was fairly quick and the crew was good.  One crystal bowl was broken and several of the boxes had dents and damage.  Fortunately I packed everything very well or I am sure there would have been a lot more broken items.  I would never use this company again and I plan to tell everyone I know to never give this company any business.

Too much lie and surprises.

I have long distance move specially for the pool table. I called multiple times to verify they handle pool table. The guy (steve) told me they do this all the time and having special packaging for the slate and charging $250.00 more for the pool table. I called multiple times to verify before deciding to go with this company. The pick up guys showed up and never knew there is pool table. They never disassemble a pool table before. They just did it. The delivery is another joke. First call to delivery, I was reminding them about pool table again to ask reassemble the pool table. Being told by driver, it won;t happen. After negotiation, they said refund me $250.00 but I have to find the guy to reassemble. They won't refund me insurance I bought for the pool table. Then on the day of delivery they called me saying by google map, they can not drive big truck to my home, so they want another $500 to rental a Uhaul. They also said, between long carry charge and shuttle charge, they pick shuttle because shuttle make more money and make truck more closer and their job more easier. Highly discoverage people to use them. Not sure why they even made list to good ones. I looked at the list before deciding to go with them. But regret ever since. Will file a BBB complaint
Do youself a favor. They don't have binding quote until they put it on the truck. Don't believe what they say. Don't believe you have binding quote until pick up is done. Pick up people will have a binding quote for you when loaded on teh truck.
If you have doubt, ask around. other people have issues then they will for sure.

Promises Unfulfilled.

Very unpleasant experience. Sales team promises the world!! I was assured that my furniture will be reassembled on arrival. Had told them clearly that its already dis-assembled and packed and available in garage. They have to pick it up from garage and deliver to San Antonio where it has to be re-assembled.  On arrival (after 13 days as against a promised approx 3-7 days), driver simply refused to touch any furniture stating that it was not assembled by his company and so wont assemble it. On talking to despatch they said the same thing and then as suspected no one agreed that it was promised to get furniture assembled. I had to spend USD 200 for my furniture assembly from another agency..    WONT RECOMMEND ANY ONE TO GOE FOR THEM.. STAY AWAY  .

Long-distance move from Nevada to Georgia

Beware.

Please do not think this moving company is worth it! This was truly the worst experience in our lives. It took two weeks before the truck even left Nevada, I had to call and inquire why our furniture was not here on the requested date that's when they said it was still there waiting for another customer to fill there truck up. I was charged $600 more than I was quoted once they arrived for our moving day, they know its to late for you to hire another company by then. When they finally said they were in route, they told us they made another stop and would be delayed a few more days. I had to call numerous times speaking with the most unprofessional secretary (Brittany) over and over again until I requested a Manager which she said was out of town for 3 weeks, I then requested to speak with Corporate. She put someone on the phone that was suppose to be the owner. Long story short it took 30 days for us to get our furniture when we were promised it in two weeks and a extra $600! BEWARE.

They Just Don't Care.

**THEY SIMPLY DON'T CARE**
I used AHM based on their Yelp reviews and should have read the 1 star reviews more closely. All the 5* reviews were from 2013 and earlier.

Things this company does really well..

Not Wrapping Glass:
- I specifically asked for artwork and pictures to be wrapped and some boxed on their own. All of my photographs were stuffed into one box with no wrapping. When they arrived all the glass had shattered and pictures torn by the cut glass.

Fudging the Truth:
That verbal quote of 5-10 business days from pick-up to delivery became 3-21 business days, once we signed the contract.

Taking no accountability:
It took two weeks to get my items out of Vegas an on a van and that is only because I called everyday and they got sick of hearing from me. Even when I referenced the contract they wouldn't respond and just didn't care.

Poor Planning on their Part Constituted an Emergency on My Part:
I was then given a 3-day window when the delivery was going to happen and told I would get 48 hours notice. I got 18 hours notice and when I explained that my apartment could not accommodate the move at this time due to another move, they called the apartment management directly and badgered them until they gave in.

It is not even worth my while to get them to pay damages on what was broken.

Apparently, this group, doesn't feel compelled to Make America Great, Again.

Long-distance move from Texas to New York

Never Use “american Home Movers”.

NEVER USE “AMERICAN HOME MOVERS”

I’ve never had to write something like this.  In the last 25 years I've moved across the country at least 1/2 dozen times from MN to KS to Buffalo NY to TX and have never had an experience as bad as using American Home Movers.

I should have expected this when they showed up on July 15th 2012 in a dirty plain white truck telling me that they had over booked so could not bring their "regular" truck.  During that time, they took all my items wrapped them up and I thought everything was fine INCLUDING the delivery date of the week of August 6th.  The reason I make a point of that, (and I told the driver and the company this) was that my 72 year old parents and my three young children would be with me for 3 weeks after that (I'm divorced) starting the week of August 13th to the end of the month.

I moved into my new place the beginning of August and called the driver to reconfirm my delivery day of August 6th 2012.  He tells me that he didn’t have a good time and/or that they could not make it by then.  I called the company and they told me that I needed to work with the driver.  As I sat around my place August 6th sleeping on an air mattress, the company continued to tell me that they could not deliver that week.

THEY NEVER TOLD ME THIS WHEN THEY PICKED UP MY BOXES AND FURNITURE OVER A MONTH AGO ON JULY 15th 2012.

I called them on August 13th to find out when they were delivering and continued to receive excuse after excuse why they can’t deliver.  My original driver went on vacation (which they never told me this before) so I could no longer contact him.  Then they called with another driver that had no clue how delayed this was.  I had none of my items to play with my children.  I had none of my kitchen items so we could cook in my home.  I had none of my extra cloths so I had to continue with what I had when I traveled here.

During this time, both of my 72 year old parents my three young children were at my new home, August 13th 2012 and slept on Air Mattresses with nothing in my home until August 24th 2012.  Almost 3 weeks after they original delivery date of the week of August 6th. My family didn’t need this level of stress and sleeping on air mattresses. My dad has had open heart surgeries and multiple stints put in.  My mother has back issues, my middle child has had multiple open heart surgeries (He’s only 14) and my youngest needed my kids books and other items for summer school (He has a learning disability).

Instead of having everything as I should expect, we slept on Air mattresses. And now my children are heading back next week.

My suggestion for anyone thinking of using “American Home Movers”….USE ANYBODY ELSE.  Including just U-Haul.  You will be much better off.

Do not use american home movers.

This was a very bad experience I wouldn't recommend them to my enemy. They qouted me a price over the phone and when they came to pick my things up they added $400 extra. They said it would take 5 to 14 days for my stuff to arrive it took 30 days. Every time I called to see where my things were they always told me to call dispatch, and dispatch  never answered; bad customer service. When they finally arrived, my book shelf was broken, and on top of all that they tried to leave without reassembling my funuture. The furniture they did end up assembling was done incorrectly. Lastly, to top it all off, they just left all their trash in front bof my house like packaging material and tape and stuff, just tossed out at the end of my yard; they were just horrible horrible and horrible. If you want your things moved and moved right do not use this company, I reccommend you go ahead and spend the extra cash to get it done because you will have a very stressful experience if you use American Home Snoozers (Movers),lol.

Long-distance move from Arizona to Illinois

Attorney General notified.

I just got off of the phone with my brother who lives in Phoenix and is moving to Chicago.  He hired American Home Movers..The movers arrived two hours late.  The movers did not show up with crating for valuable artwork as promised.  My brother then had to pay another company 1200 dollars to quickly come and crate the artwork and ship it to Chicago.  In addition, the mover handed my brother a bill for 2000 dollars above the quoted price!  Of course he cannot get a hold of anyone and nobody is willing to speak with him.  We will be in touch with the Attorney General.

Long-distance move from Nevada to Texas

Do your homework!! It pays off.

Got 5 quotes from brokers and movers. Opted away from the brokers (they sub out to ??). Went to the US DEPT OF TRANSPORTATION, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Admin, and checked out the remaining three moving companies. American Movers had very few issues with safety, complaints and driver fitness compared to the other two. They were a local Las Vegas company so I went and met with the general manager, Moshe. With confidence I left a deposit with an agreed move date. The GM showed up during truck loading and we mutually agreed on cubic foot evaluation. Our "stuff" made it to Texas same day as us (a week ahead of schedule) without any damage, extra costs or loss. The foreman walked us through all un blanketed items and a complete review of the inventory list. I highly recommend this "hands-on" company to anyone who is expectant of "old-school" great customer service and care.

Long-distance move from Arizona to Texas

Stay away! Wrong prices and stealing.

We looked at a lot of Movers and ended up using this one for our cross country move. Boy did we go wrong. It started out fine and it felt like a good choice. Got a quote, was promised that the price was locked and wouldn't change and then bam - pick up day came and all of a sudden they wanted 500$ more. which baffled us since we had a detailed inventory and actually ended up getting rid of big items so if anything it should have been cheaper. Anyways, the dude couldn't even explain why it was more and kept playing around and trying to sell me some bull poop reason And pressuring you into signing a new paper Or your things wouldn't leave. Once you sign you are screwed since they going to use that to enforce the higher price. the crew leaves and next thing you know is one guy trying to buy your old paint buckets and the next guy steals your old laptop.  Drop off was a disaster too. I've been in contact with a guy named Joseph and he claimed to be able to help us with the whole 500$ price difference. Well emails been send, phohe calls been made and we were assured it was handled and the original price was the right one. Then the guys show up with the truck and you can see your things yet can't get them cause apparently the Joseph dude isn't worth a penny in the company and they insist on getting the last 500$ before they unload. when we finally got our things unloaded one guy kept staring and making inapropate comments to a friend of mine making her feel uncomfortable While the other tries to sell you some bullcrap cruise but doesn't want you to tell his boss cause he's doing it without his knowing. We ended up with damage and broken items and a price that was higher than the supposedly locked quote.  Do your research and find yourself a good company so you can safe yourself the headache, money  and trouble you'll have with this one! .

Long-distance move from Nashville, TN to Arvada, CO

Added almost $2,000 to my quote upon pickup.

If I could give this company negative stars I would. After spending over 3 hours on the phone with a Senior Relocation Specialist confirming my box count and inventory, I was confident in the $5,400 quote that I received to move our two bedroom house from Nashville, TN to Denver, CO. You can imagine my reaction when the driver shows up on our moving day and tells me that my estimate will need to be increased by $2,000!! My husband and I felt like this company had us over a barrel and we were left with no choice but to come up with the extra money. And if that isn't stressful enough we had to chase this company for copies of our inventory paperwork and to schedule our delivery date. I was starting to wonder if our belongings had ever made it to the storage facility in Las Vegas at all. Many frustrated phone calls and different managers later we received our belongings which consisted of crushed boxes and damaged furniture. Even with everything "professionally wrapped" in blankets we submitted 9 claims for damage. With the appalling customer service that we have received throughout this entire process I doubt anything will come of our claims, but the least I can do as a public service is warn others by sharing our experience.

Property Move Damage.

Would give them less than 1 star if possible. Horrible experience. We had them move furniture & personal property from LA to Nashville. Upon arrival, there were 14+ items worth over $ 2,000 permanently damaged. We even have a video of one of their movers literally kicking boxes off the moving truck and laughing about it. We filed a damages claim with the THEIR claim agent who offered us an insulting $ 150. We then filed a small claims court action against them and the judge granted us only the $ 150 due to the fine print ( $.60/pound maximum liability - we had no choice as they told us full replacement insurance coverage was not available) in the contract even though he acknowledged that the damage was credible and AHM was responsible. They are dishonest and fortunate to have had the small claims hearing before an incompetent judge.

Long-distance move from Las Vegas, NV to New York, NY

Appalling.

I am writing this review from my floor since I don't have a couch -

My belongings were picked up April 25th in Las Vegas. I was told they'd be delivered to me within 7 to 21 business days. It is June 19th and I haven't had as much as a phone call of reassurance or an apology for the EXTREME delay, despite my reaching out.. MULTIPLE times.

The staff was very keen to rush my pick up and have papers signed and deposits paid immediately (calling me, nagging me every 30 minutes) but have yet to respond to an email that I sent to them weeks ago now.

At this point I am just praying that my things haven't been stolen or damaged.
My furniture is valuable and my life is in those boxes.

I have done plenty of moving across the country - the world for that matter and this is by far my worst experience. Take your moving needs elsewhere. 1 star is overrating by far.

Long-distance move from Nevada to Utah

Unbelievably bad movers

This company quoted me $3,500 to move belongings from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City. The price only went up AFTER all the belongings were loaded up an in their possession, then the price went up to $8,500. What can you do? They basically hold your belongings ransom unless you pay the increased price. They broke several items during unloading including a computer desk they dropped, a lamp, and a few sentimental knick knack items. They damaged a wall and the floor in my new home and tried to hide the damage by putting something over it that was completely out of place. American Home Movers only accepts cash upon delivery. They do not accept debit or credit card and now I know why. Every single customer would file a dispute with their bank because they get charged more than what they agreed to and the company does less than they agreed to do. They did not put the beds together as agreed to prior to the move. This move was for my 70 year old mother in law. We are moving her in with us since she can no longer take care of herself. When the delivery was complete they asked her to sign a delivery receipt. She looked it over and asked them to note on the receipt the broken/damaged items. In response the mover yelled “F*** you!” Hearing the yelling I ran down to the basement to check on my mother in law and find out what was going on. By the time I found out the movers were gone. They had jumped in the moving truck and took off as fast as they could. A few items were left outside and other items were not put where they were supposed to be inside. When scheduling delivery they no showed the first two days they scheduled with me.

Now this part is kind of funny. Well it would be funny if the whole experience wasn’t so awful.

The 3rd time when they finally showed up, I let them in and the first words they said after walking into my home were “I need to collect.” I thought that was kind of rude but whatever. I had gone to the bank earlier because they said the would only accept cash. The remaining balance due was exactly $3482.50 because I had already paid them $5,000 previously. I counted out $3,480.00 and gave it to the guy and told him my mother in law had singles for him when he went downstairs and that she would give him the $3. He stood there and counted the money 3 more times before looking up and saying “OK but I really need to collect that money.” I almost fell out of my chair laughing, spit my drink out of my mouth, thinking he has to be joking around but he was not. He was dead serious. “You mean the 3 dollars?” I asked him. Yes, after paying them $5,000 the week prior and $3480 more 5 mins ago, that’s what he was talking about. I reminded him that I just told him my mother in law had smaller bills than I did and she already had $3 pulled out and set aside to give home when he went downstairs. I thought he’d get it on his first trip down with stuff but no, he ran straight downstairs that second and then came back up mad huffing and puffing that she was in the bathroom or something. I ended up finding a $5 bill in a dresser drawer and hoped we could get started now. My mother in law not knowing any of what just happened, gave him the $3 as soon as she saw him come downstairs and would you believe he took her little $3 and stuck it in his pocket. Haha

Just a terrible experience from start to finish and if you look in yelp or Google or mymovingreviews.com you’ll see the same thing over and over again. 2 stars total score which is way too high and person after person saying they got a lowball quote only to have the price double once all their belongings were loaded on the truck and in the possession of American Home Movers. Smart thing that happened to us. To take advantage of someone like that is pitiful and shameful but I don’t get wound up about it usually but when you take advantage of children or elderly people it really boils my blood. My 70 year old mother in law is on a fixed income. I ended up just paying for her move so no big deal but how many people don’t have that luxury? I wasn’t always in a position to just be able to pay thousands of dollars for a situation like this. What would she have done if this happened and I couldn’t give her the money?

You know what else I couldn’t always afford? To spend a thousand dollars or so buying facebook and other online ads to try to get the word out about how terrible this company is. I can afford it now though and I have nothing better to do with my time. So if you’ve read this far, you have to be tired of hearing me rant and rave but please save yourself the headache and heartache and use a more legitimate company. Whatever you do please do not call American Home Movers. Good luck on your move, I hope it turns out better than hers did.
